The Challenge
Career Center programming was historically discoverable only through Handshake, a platform with limited visibility for faculty, staff, and family members, all key referral sources for student attendance. Compounding the problem, Career Center events were buried in a single Handshake feed alongside employer-posted listings, sometimes resulting in thousands of entries with no visual distinction between an on-campus workshop just for Fordham students and an employer’s national webinar. Beyond discoverability, the office’s existing channels, social media and email newsletters, were effective but structurally limited to short-form content, leaving no outlet for longer narrative storytelling or campaign expansion.
The Approach
I collaborated closely with Fordham’s web team over several weeks to ideate, develop, and launch a dedicated WordPress blog — the university’s second official blog platform. The site was built around two core functions: an interactive embedded events calendar that spotlights Career Center programming beyond the broader Handshake feed, with multiple view options for easier discovery; and a long-form content platform that allows the office to publish stories and campaign content beyond what short-form social and email can support.
My Role
I originated the concept, led content strategy and platform vision, and partnered with the web development team on technical execution and calendar integration from ideation through launch.
Outcome & Looking Ahead
The blog launched to a strong audience reception, drawing more than 4,735 views and 3,012 visitors in its first month, quickly establishing it as one of the Career Center’s largest platforms. The roadmap includes expanding into student-generated content in the upcoming academic year, both to grow the platform’s output and to create a new professional development outlet for students.
