I am proud to announce the Fordham Career Center has officially launched its blog, hosted on WordPress! For the past several weeks, I’ve collaborated closely with Fordham University’s web team to ideate, develop, and launch our site, which is only the second official blog at the University.
The site serves two primary purposes. The first is to bridge the gap in information on upcoming events and offerings. Historically, Career Center programming could only be found in Handshake, which was not easily accessible to faculty, staff, and family members, all of whom were key contributors in referring students to attend Career Center events. Furthermore, Career Center events were listed in the same feed as events from Handshake-approved employers, making the upcoming events feed hundreds, or sometimes thousands, of listings long with little to no visual delineation for what was actually happening on-campus. The new interactive embedded events calendar allows Career Center programming to be displayed on its own and , and multiple view options make it easier than ever to discover what to attend.
The second primary purpose is to create a platform for the Career Center to expand the information it provides to its audiences and integrate long-form written content into its roster. Previously, short-form social media, such as Instagram, and email newsletters were our primary forms of communication. While these platforms were highly effective, they required content to be concise. The blog will now allow the Career Center to produce and publish longer stories, as well as expand on content that is released as part of larger campaigns.
Our audience was extremely receptive to our new platform. We received more than 4735 views and 3012 visitors in our first month, which quickly allowed our blog to become one of our largest platforms.
